Newly Installed Electricty....Starts Fire in Qld Parliament House - 1886

Electricity came to Queensland's Parliament house in July 1886 via buried Edison tubes that ran the length of William Street, those tubes are being removed from William Street today some 130 years after they were originally installed. The arrival of 96 volts of electricityto the house wasn't without incident, within in weeks of it's commissioning an electrical fie broke out in the floor of one of the chambers, caused by an electrical fault. The above snippet describing the fire was published in the Brisbane Courier on the 25th of August 1886.
